We chat to the cool, fresh and awesome artist Denga Takalani a.k.a Kingdmusic. We get to know him, his music and whats to come. Get the scoop here…
You’re such a cool guy. What do get up to when you have free time?
I love music, reading, fashion, hanging out with my friends and anything creative. I also love movies, I actually go to the movies every week haha
Is that where you get your inspiration or what is it that inspires you to write new music?
I seriously think that there’s a lot of things to write about and I sometimes just wish that I had all the time in the world to write new music. But just to be more specific, I get inspired by people around me, what’s happening in my life, what’s happening around the world and I also get inspired by the Holy Spirit most of the time (more like all the time). I know it sounds corny but seriously, most of my songs comes from my devotions with God.
In December 2015, I lost my Brother in-law in a car accident and in September 2016, I lost my grandmother and in November 2016 I lost my beloved father. This was a tough season for me and my family but “No Longer Slaves” by Bethel music really kept me going. Worship was the only tool that kept me going. I remember asking God questions like did I do something wrong or is He punishing me for something? But I’ll always hear Him whispering to me, telling me that I shouldn’t fear anything because he is with me. I will always feel liberated every time i worship whether on a platform or in my own bedroom space. Psalm 118:6 kept me going and assured me that I am not alone.
How would you describe your music style to people who haven’t heard your music before?
Well my music is mainly produced for young people not just young people in age but in spirit too. I make music that is relevant to today’s generation and culture. I love expressing myself through music and I don’t like limiting myself to a certain style of music because I want to be relevant to a 7 year old, a teenager and still be relevant to an 80 year old person. Hence, if you listen to Upside Down and Always they are two different styles of music but relevant to both young and old people.
Who has been the biggest influence on your music?
Hillsong Y&F, Lecrae, Travis Greene, Benjamin Dube, Bethel Music. It’s all these guys because they do different styles of music and I really love the worship they always bring.
Getting to share a stage with two of the most amazing worship leaders we have today in the world and that’s Alex Pappas from Hillsong Y&F and Martin Smith.
There are so many different styles of music, different ways to get your music out there and so many distractions. From your experience as a worship leader and a artist, what advice would you give to young artists?
Find your voice within the industry. Understand what it is that God is doing through you and stay faithful to that. Don’t try to be someone that you are not or be the next Loyiso Bala or Taya Smith. Be yourself because God wants to use you just the way you are.
Learn to write your own songs and also learn to play at list one instrument. This will help you a lot. Trust me 😉
Trust God with your journey and always learn from your mistakes. God can only take you to the next great season of your life whenever He feels that you are ready.
Surround yourself with creative people who can help you reach your potential
ALWAYS trust GOD 😀
What is next for Kingdmusic?
I recently released my latest single Praise Him feat Cjay and that’s the last single I am releasing this year from the album I am working on now in studio. People can expect the full album in 2018.
